San Marcos now has a new healthy fast food option on North City Drive, just across the street from CSUSM, where local residents Nancee and Dave have opened the first Fresh Healthy Cafe in San Diego County.
The franchise is known for their menus of rotating seasonal dishes along with standby salads, power bowls, protein bowls, paninnis, wraps, fresh juices, and smoothies, all made with as much local produce as possible, and served in earth-friendly, biodegradable packaging.
Their panini menu features the likes of turkey bacon avocado, tuna melts, and hot pressed portobello mushroom sandwiches layered with fresh spinach, mozzarella, red pepper, red onion, and balsamic vinaigrette, all served with a side of cold quinoa salad.
Hearty whole wheat wraps come in the form of ceasear, vegetarian kale, and Asian-inspired chicken breasts layered with crispy veggies, mandarin orange slices, and nutty sesame vinaigrette.
The bowls run the gammut from the hot pink antioxidant Pitaya bowl made with dragon fruit, granola, and coconut slivers, to savory build-your-own quinoa protein bowls.
Their juice bar is probably one of their most impressive features, with customizable fresh juices, smoothies, and even a juice cleanse program.
The modern little counter service shop has table and bar seating as well as leather chairs for the smoothie sipping crowd.
It’s a nice addition to the area, where fast food options abound, but there isn’t as much in the way of light, local fare.
